FAQ

What is Chiropractic:
The study of problems of health and disease from a structural point of view. Special consideration is given to bio-mechanics and neurological relations - disease may be caused or aggravated by disturbances of the nervous system - disturbances of the nervous system may be caused by derangements of the muscular, skeletal structures.

What kind of education and training do chiropractors have?

Chiropractors receive an education that emphasizes neuromuscular diagnosis and treatment. Preparation for the practice of chiropractic is concentrated on three areas of learning; basic training in the biological and health sciences.

How long do Doctors of Chiropractic go to school?

Doctors of Chiropractic have studied and trained in a post-secondary college or university for at least seven years. Just like medical or dental students, they must first complete undergraduate study before applying for admission to a chiropractic college.

Becoming a chiropractor is a demanding and highly rewarding path that includes a minimum of 4,500 hours of intense academic study including classroom learning, clinical science and internship training. During the course of their training, he/she will have studied the following three areas:

-- Basic sciences, including anatomy, physiology, pathology (the study of diseases), biochemistry, clinical sciences, X-ray interpretation and differential diagnosis.
-- Training in the philosophy and practice of chiropractic.
-- Clinical internship with emphasis on hands-on practice.
Your chiropractor is a primary contact provider just like your family physician, optometrist or dentist. You do not need a referral from your medical doctor to see a chiropractor.

Once I go to a chiropractor, do I have to keep going back?

At Goforth Health Center we approach every problem with a reasonable and logical treatment plan. Every treatment plan is case specific for the individual chief complaint. Some patients report feeling much better with maintenance or wellness care and we are here to support that approach as well

What is Acupuncture:
Is a component of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), a medical system that originated in China thousands of years ago and still is widely practiced there. Scientific evidence strongly supports claims that the practice may help relieve pain. Applied Kinesiology:
This holistic approach to healthcare draws together various complimentary therapies. AK helps determine the cause of the problem through non-evasive measures such as posture and gait analysis, range of motion, palpation and manual muscle testing.

These assessments are used along with standard methods of diagnosis such as clinical history, physical examination findings, laboratory tests, x-ray examination and instrumentation. This information is used as a guide for the doctor to determine which therapies will be most effective for the patient.

Individual muscle tests are performed to see how nerves in the body react to physical, chemical and emotional stress. These tests also show a direct correlation between specific muscles and organs which is helpful when treating chronic problems either muscular or organ in nature.

As an AK doctor I do not fix or cure any disease. Rather I have a way to evaluate and restore proper function of the nervous system thereby allowing the body to once again regulate its own health. We have in all of us the potential to be well. It is up to the doctor and the patient to be sure this inborn potential for health and healing is free from any interference.

Nutritional Counseling:
Supporting the body nutritionally allows the body to heal within the tissues and is used independently or in tandem with other modalities. Giving the body the nutritional support it needs to heal, is our goal.
